چکیده

Rapid growth of technical developments has created huge challenges for microphone forensics a subcategory of audio forensic science, because of the availability of numerous digital recording devices and massive amount of recording data. Demand for fast and efficient methods to assure integrity and authenticity of information is becoming more and more important in criminal investigation nowadays. Machine learning has emerged as an important technique to support audio analysis processes of microphone forensic practitioners. However, its application to real life situations using supervised learning is still facing great challenges due to expensiveness in collecting data and updating system. In this paper, we introduce a new machine learning approach which is called One-class Classification (OCC) to be applied to microphone forensics; we demonstrate its capability on a corpus of audio samples collected from several microphones. In addition, we propose a representative instance classification framework (RICF) that can effectively improve performance of OCC algorithms for recording signal with noise. Experiment results and analysis indicate that OCC has the potential to benefit microphone forensic practitioners in developing new tools and techniques for effective and efficient analysis.

Improving Chernoff criterion for classification by using the filled function

Linear discriminant analysis is a well-known matrix-based dimensionality reduction method. It is a supervised feature extraction method used in two-class classification problems. However, it is incapable of dealing with data in which classes have unequal covariance matrices. Taking this issue, the Chernoff distance is an appropriate criterion to measure distances between distributions. In the p...

Separating Speech from Speech Noise

The main work at Columbia this year has been the development of algorithms for extracting and recognizing speech in nonstationary, noisy environments when only a single microphone channel is available. Our particular approach is based on using trained models to distinguish regions of time-frequency containing speech from nonspeech areas [2], and we have pursued this along several directions: On...

IRDDS: Instance reduction based on Distance-based decision surface

In instance-based learning, a training set is given to a classifier for classifying new instances. In practice, not all information in the training set is useful for classifiers. Therefore, it is convenient to discard irrelevant instances from the training set. This process is known as instance reduction, which is an important task for classifiers since through this process the time for classif...

Enhancement of noisy speech recordings via blind source separation

We propose an improved time-domain Blind Source Separation method and apply it to speech signal enhancement using multiple microphone recordings. The improvement consists in utilization of fuzzy clustering instead of a hard one, which is verified by experiments where real-world mixtures of two audio signals are separated from two microphones. Performance of the method is demonstrated by recogni...

Verification of Multi-Class Recognition Decision: A Classification Approach

We investigate strategies to improve the utterance verification performance using a 2-class pattern classification approach, including: utilizing N-best candidate scores, modifying segmentation boundaries, applying background and out-of-vocabulary filler models, incorporating contexts, and minimizing verification errors via discriminative training. A connected-digit database recorded in a noisy...
